Happy New Year! Keep up those Quit Smoking Resolutions!

It’s that time of year many people make new years resolutions to quit smoking, drink less, lose some weight and so on.

The funny thing is, the statistics show that if you JUST make a resolution to quit smoking, and don’t have a plan or really take it seriously you only have a 5% chance of success.

Yes, that’s right, 95% of people making a new years resolution to quit smoking actually fail.

Merry Xmas - Quit Smoking

Anyway I hope you all had a merry (Smoke Free!) Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I don’t need to make a resolution to quit as I’ve already quit well before Christmas, as I know it’s a hard time to give up and especially work wise the New Year always seems to be busy and stressful.

Millions of smokers are fed up with smoking and commit themselves to stop smoking at the start of each New Year. Unfortunately, most either don’t follow through or fail to quit properly. These people relapse and pick up the habit again due to lack of preparation and proper support. Quitting smoking is a process and there is no “silver bullet” that can cure smoking overnight.

In 2005, quitting smoking was the number one New Year’s resolution in America. Tragically one out of four, or nearly 50 million, Americans still smoke and need help to quit.

The main things to remember are:

1) Make a quit plan AND STICK TO IT!

2) Prepare yourself mentally

3) Get support from friends and family

4) Know your triggers

5) Excercise!

And remember, 1 is enough to get you addicted again, if you are the kind of person that is really addicted to cigarettes you can never be a social smoker, you can’t take it or leave it and one is enough to start you up again. So don’t do it, not even ONE.

I have stopped smoking for 2 Months, 3 Weeks, 5 Days, 9 hours, 1 minute and 35 seconds (87 days). I have saved a massive $611.62 by not smoking 1,747 stinky cigarettes. I have saved an awesome 6 Days, 1 hour and 35 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 8/10/2005 3:00 AM

    Feliz Año Nuevo QS!!

No, I haven’t quit smoking yet nor have I made any resolution to quit smoking. I agree that many fail to keep their resolutions to quit smoking hence why I didn’t make any this year. If I can’t go cold turkey then I’ll do it baby steps.

Aside from getting totally wasted on Christmas, I think I OD-ed on smoking because since I got back til today I haven’t held a single stick. heheh. I hope this continues but I highly doubt it.

Hope you had one great New Year! Cheers…

Dee: Bonne année, glad to see someone is still reading :)

It’s not such a great idea to go the resolution route anyway, I tried it before too and lost the battle after about 3 months, it’s a good excuse to quit but if you’re really not ready, it doesn’t make a bit of difference.

Keep up the abstinence if you can! New Year was quiet for me, went a little too crazy at Xmas..

I’ll save the next party for my birthday! Cheers.
