Top 10 Gadgets To Help You Quit Smoking For The New Year!

Now this is a list I compiled for the new year, I’m sure many people have made their minds up to stop smoking as a new years resolution!

A very good resolution it is too.

Apologies for the lack of updates, it’s been the party season and I’ve passed through it all without smoking! Congratulations to all you others who remained smoke free throughout the Christmas festivities!

The list is in no particular order, just a bunch of interesting gadgets I saw that might help you quit or stop smoking.

10) The Locking Cigarette Case

Locking Cigarette Case

For many people the hardest part about quitting cold turkey is the random cravings, if you are cutting down according to a schedule, something like this might be a good idea. The case acutally locks the cigarettes in and can be set to open at certain intervals.

The only problem with this appears to be it can’t control how many cigarettes you can take out.

The price comes in at about $35USD, it was last seen on a Japanese Site.

9) No Smoking Cigarette Lighter Plug

No Smoking Cigarette Lighter Plug

This is neat little gadget for your car, it lets people know that it’s a non-smoking vehicle without that akward confrontation.

It’s a good idea to replace your vehicle’s cigarette lighter with a glowing no smoking symbol, this plug glows bright blue when plugged in utilising the internationally recognized no-smoking symbol on the front in red and black.

The prices comes in at around $7USD and can be found at Quitsmoking.com.

8) The Cigarette Counter

The Cigarette Counter

This device is created to bring the awareness of how many you are smoking and then to set a limit per day allowing you reduce your cigarette intake over time.

By pushing the button and viewing the number of cigarettes we’ve smoked already, we become more aware of what we’re doing! Most of the times who smokes does so in an automatic, non-conscious way, often without control.

From the press release:

If we want to realize how much we’re really smoking, we’ll push “reset” each morning and add each cigarette we smoke during the day by pressing the “+” button. Once we know our average, we can set a limit on the Cigarette Counter each morning and press the “minus” button every time we light up, until we reach zero: at that point we don’t allow ourselves any more cigarettes for that day. Over time, we’ll learn to save cigarettes for specific moments, and we’ll be able to gradually reduce our nicotine intake by setting a lower and lower limit, therefore slowly changing our habit.

The Cigarette Counter can be found here and costs around $7USD.

7) The Smart Ashtray

The Smart Ashtray

This little gadget allows you to smoke only a little bit of a cigarette to quell your craving, which enables you to cut down easily.

This patented method for quitting smoking allows you to continue smoking while you are quitting. It allows you to gradually wean yourself off cigarettes and quit the same way you started; gradually, over a period of time.

It’s a pretty neat idea, I’d be interested to know if it works, as I haven’t seen anyone using one of these yet. The kit costs around $30USD and can be found HERE for the US and HERE for the UK.

6) Graduated Filter Kit

Graduated Cigarette Filter Kit

Now this is an idea that makes sense to me, a set of filters you use to smoke your cigarettes that gradually reduce the nicotine and tar levels passed through, until the last one filters almost 80% out, allowing you to quit totally without such a big shock to your system.

They claim the filters are re-usable and will last indefinitely with regular cleaning.

It is however quite expensive and comes in at around £50.00! You can find it HERE.

5) The Smokeless Counter

The Smokeless Counter

This is another nifty little gadget that allows you to crunch some numbers and give you a little more control over how many cigarettes you are smoking. It calculates how many you should be smoking and the next time you are ‘allowed’ to smoke meaning you can cut down without really having to think about it.

Just enter these five numbers into the SmokeLessCounter:

1. Enter the current time of day
2. Enter the number of cigarettes you currently smoke each day.
3. Enter the number of days until you wish to be a non-smoker.
4. Enter the cost per cigarette.
5. Press the Smoke button

Now the SmokeLessCounter will begin counting down the minutes until your next cigarette. When it’s time to smoke again, it will emit a low “beep.” According to the number of days YOU have entered, the SmokeLessCounter will gradually (and automatically) increase the time between cigarettes. Day by day, week by week, you will smoke less and less until your quit day arrives.

The counter costs around $20-25USD and can be found HERE.

4) Mini Filters

Mini Filters

If you really can’t stop smoking, you can at least try to limit the damage. These tiny filters significantly reduce intake of harmful tar, nicotine and other hazardous chemicals.

Each tiny clear plastic disposable filter lasts for 5-10 cigarettes.

Does not alter the taste of the cigarette.

These are cheap and come in at only £2.00 from HERE.

3) X-Pack Self-Help Quit Smoking Kit

X-Pack Self-Help Quit Smoking Kit

This is a cool idea, especially as a gift for a loved one or perhaps child, it’s aimed at those smokers that are in the ‘X’ generation. Typically 18-24 (I’m a little outside that demographic now).

Its based on best medical practices in smoking cessation among young adult smokers and includes quitting guide, quit cards, stress putty, gum, cinnamon toothpicks, resource guide, and more.

It’s pretty cheap at around $7USD and can be found HERE.

2) Cotinine Urine Test kit for Detecting Nicotine Use

Urine Nicotine Test

Nicotine typically remains in the body 2 to 4 days after your last cigarette. If you want to see if your system is free of nicotine, or check your child for tobacco use, use this simple test kit.

It’s pretty simple to use, just like the home pregnancy tests, you basically pee on it!

It costs around and tou can find it HERE.

1) LifeSign QuitKey Smoking Cessation Program

LifeSign QuitKey Smoking Cessation Program

This is a neat little keyring, similar in concept to the Smokeless Counter above.

LifeSign breaks your nicotine addition because it gradually decreases your dependence by reversing the process that got you hooked. By gradually withdrawing your body’s craving for nicotine, you’ll end your addition. You won’t need the nicotine from cigarettes anymore

It costs around $55USD, which seems a little expensive. You can find it HERE.
