Smoking Really Makes your Clothes, Car and Hair STINK and Smell

I guess I knew when I smoked, but I didn’t realise how BAD it was until I quit.

  • Cigarettes make your clothes smell
  • They make your hair smell
  • They make your car smell (if you smoke in it)
  • If you smoke inside it makes your curtains smell, your sofa, your bed, your chair..

This is a pretty short-term effect, but it’s very anti-social and it’s quite a putrid smell, especially ashtrays and extinguised ciggarettes.

Ashtray

It’s to the extent it may actually put people off from buying your car or home if you are a heavy smoker.

I noticed this very strongly after a night out recently, when I was in close proximity of 2 smokers for the evening.

When I came home I could really smell the smoke in my hair and saturating my clothes, it was quite disgusting.

Smoking dulls the power of your tastebuds and your sense of smell, so for one it doesn’t seem so bad, and as a smoker you can’t really smell it anyway as you are inhaling it.

It’s like people with Bodily Odours, they aren’t really aware of their own smell, but those around them can smell it clearly.

Same for smokers and the smell of ciggarete smoke, as someone who’s quit, my sense of smell has returned and I am very sensitive to the smell of a smokers space now.

When getting a lift in a colleagues car recently, the smell of smoke actually made me slightly nauseous.

I suggest IF you are a smoker, you should consider this when smoking around others, no more smoking in my car! That’s for sure.

well, I’m really surprised. and glad for you as well. for quiting smoking.
mainly because it harms health. not only your health. but also those around you.
do you know of any good way to quit smoking?
cuz i’ve tried lotsa methods but my dad is still smoking.
the thing is he now has high blood pressure and perharps other illness he didn’t tell me about.
I don’t stay with my dad and there’s no way for me to control the number of cigarettes he smokes per day. thanks a lot for commenting at my blog (:

8dee: Thanks for popping by, hope to see you again :)

viv: Well viv, it really depends on him, there is many ways. The most recent method I outlined was quitting smoking with cold turkey and some tips. But everyone is different. There is also hypnotherapy, patches and some drugs. Has your father tried any of these things? It is hard though if you don’t stay with him.

    Hence why I,

    1. Don’t smoke in my room (anymore) although that cute little duck ashtray is sitting under my bedside table looking all lost and confused…and LONELY.
    2. Still stupidly smoke in my car…WITH my air-cond switched off however unfortunately cigarette ashes keeps flying back in while I’m driving.

Although I also realize as a smoker your finger starts to smell and your fingernails turn yellowish and it sticks to your flesh like a leech and will never go until you’ve washed it in Dettol 10 times! Ok, I overexaggerated on the dettol bit. But still the smoke smell stays on you for days…ugh.

Dee: Well that’s a good start, yeah the ash in the car thing is terrible..worst is if you try and throw the butt out the window and it comes back in, or you drop it between your legs when you’re driving..I’ve had both and have a pretty big hole in my backseat to prove it.

And yeah…really it STINKS! I knew before, but I didn’t realise how horrible it was till I quit, sense of smell comes back after a week or so.

I am back on track! But I’m still using nicotine gum.

FF: Hey that’s great news! Keep it up please. Don’t get too dependant on the gum though, just as bad haha.

Good to see a site like this. Needs a little typo-cleaning, but otherwise really good! You can also check out http://www.dontpassgas.org.

They came up with a great way to associate smoking with farting (passing gas).
