Hi, JENNIFER Good luck in quitting, I know you can do it! It's hard for the first week or so but after that's it ok. I recommend cutting yourself some carrot/cucumber sticks and apple slices and storing them in the fridge for when you get cravings.

well I've made it for about 24 hours feeling pretty good!!! Everyone pray for me cause I really want to quit and I know I will not fail this time. I have wanted to quit for a long time and Having Asmatic Bronchitis for the last week kinda gave me a jump start. I am well now and never want to feel that way again.

Wanted to share info on a cool Web site for quitters called Committed Quitters that I’m finding really useful. It provides support that’s tailored to your individual needs. When I signed up, it asked me tons of questions about my smoking habits (annoying at first – but there’s a reason for it) then it gave me a personalized quit strategy that’s really helping me through times when I’m tempted to smoke. I found out about it when I bought some patches but since I signed up, it’s being offered it free. I really encourage anyone thinking of quitting to sign up…..it’s a really cool tool! Good luck!

Hey QS,

OMGod get away from them for a week or two? That's like losing an arm or a leg. Unfortunately, we're an extremely close-knit family. We talk or meet like every other day and what not. Shucks, every where I go there's always always family. Scary huh. I'm not trying to make excuses but it's a fact.

Somemore now my uncle is staying with us, my dad and him are always puffing away like dragons. Thank God I don't easily succumb to smoking that often but once I pick up a stick , it'll be like nonstop. I'm like a super-dynamo human chimney I tell you. Heh. My bad my bad.

I agree with what you said that I need to beat my subconcious and take control of my will. Uggh...only if I wasn't so weak when it comes to smoking. Bleargh...

Hi Dee,

I totally agree, if you are surrounded by smokers it's really very difficult to quit as it's always in your face.

The only option is to get away from them for a week or two at least.

In that situation you need super-human willpower and there will always be that little voice in your head saying 'just another one' is ok, because you see it all around you.

A lot of quitting is beating your subconcious into submission and taking control of your will.

It is best to make it as easy as yourself as possible though.

When you have at least 80-90% of people in the family who smokes, going cold turkey is IMPOSSIBLE, unless its a joint effort. I have an uncle who stopped smoking for 10 years and just last year he picked it up again, due to family problems.

I completely comprehend that excuses like these aren't quite acceptable. But then again, if one really wants to quit, (s)he must have the will to want to quit and of course to have great ability to hold from tempatations. It can be for many many reasons from health to lifestyle.

Kudos to you for being to go cold turkey. I tried it lots of times...I guess I have very low willpower, even though I don't exactly smoke a pack a day or even a stick a day.

Cheers!

smoking isn't half bad if you don't do it more than a pack a month or something like that. almost the best of both worlds.
